AV Labs' portfolio companies will gain access to IBM Corp. technology, product development initiatives and marketing and business resources through a new agreement, according to an AV Labs news release.
Austin-based AV Labs is a venture capital firm that focuses on seed and first-round investments in infrastructure and enterprise software companies. The firm has more than 15 portfolio companies in Central Texas, including Contextual Inc. and Covasoft Inc.
Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM provides hardware, software and services to companies and consumers.
"The purpose of the relationship is to give us several fronts within IBM to get direct communication and direct assistance dependent on individual company needs," says Tommy Deavenport, vice president of finance and operations at AV Labs.
"If hardware or software is one of those needs, we have discounted programs in place for those. Companies [might determine] other services and programs would also fit into those needs."
AV Labs has signed similar agreements with Austin-based computer maker Dell Computer Corp., Redmond, Wash.-based software company Microsoft Corp. and Austin-based e-commerce software developer Vignette Corp.
