BroadJump adds automated support capabilities
Austin Business Journal
BroadJump Inc. will couple its broadband consumer-installation software with a company that identifies information technology issues automatically.
Austin-based BroadJump has signed a joint product and marketing agreement with Redwood City, Calif.-based Support.com Inc. [Nasdaq: SPRT], which will provide an end-to-end consumer support software created for broadband service providers, according to a Support.com news release.
BroadJump develops software that enables people to install broadband service on their computers without a technician from a cable company, phone company or other broadband provider to install it.
Support.com provides Web-based support software that identifies and repairs IT problems.
The BroadJump and Support.com customer bases together cover more than 60 percent of the broadband subscriber market in North America, the release states. That customer base carries growth potential, according to Scottsdale, Ariz.-based research firm Cahner's In-Stat Group.
Cahner's forecasts the number of broadband subscribers will top the 21 million mark globally by the end of 2001 and reach nearly 84 million by 2005. In addition, U.S. subscribership is expected to increase from 6.8 million to more than 19 million between 2000 and 2002.
